Immigration law
Hey ppls. So I wanted to know wat u guys think about the new Arizona law. Wats ur view point n how do u feel about it. I copied n paste this article jus incase u guy didn't knoe wat the law was about. Thanks!
By Tim Gaynor. http://us.mobile.reuters.com/mobile/m/AnyArticle/p.rdt?URL=http://www.re...
PHOENIX (Reuters) - With Arizona's crackdown on illegal immigrants looming, Guatemalan Samuel Roldan is swapping the family's battered Chevy Suburban, which he feels marks them out as low-income migrants, for a smarter, more corporate-looking Nissan.
"When you have an old car (covered) with stickers for a Spanish-language radio station ... it's only logical that they will think you are Hispanic and you don't have papers," Roldan said.
Roldan is among an estimated 460,000 illegal immigrants in the Mexico border state carefully weighing their options on Monday, three days after Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed the United States' toughest immigration measure into law.
Slated to take effect 90 days after the current legislative session adjourns, the measure backed by Republicans in the state legislature requires state and local police to determine if people are in the country illegally. Critics of the law say it is a mandate for racial profiling.
The law, which also makes it a crime to transport illegal immigrants and to hire day laborers off the street, has sent a jolt through the undocumented workforce in the state, the principal corridor for illegal migrants entering from Mexico.
Some like Roldan, 34, who has a steady job as a warehouse worker and three U.S.-born daughters in Phoenix schools, plan to stay put, lower their profile and wait to see how the law will affect them.
Others, like Mexican day laborer Jesus Aguilar, 52, say the measure leaves them few options but to leave Arizona and try their luck elsewhere.
"Since the law says that people hiring undocumented day laborers will get fined, no-one wants to (hire) us," said Aguilar, who early on Monday was among some two dozen migrants touting for landscaping and building work at a day labor site in north Phoenix.
"We are thinking of going to Utah or New Mexico ... Here it is just too racist," he added.
'CREATE HAVOC'
The law has raised fears that Hispanics will be racially profiled and police will actively hunt down illegal immigrants, who are estimated to number about 10.8 million in the nation and are the backbone of the shadow economy.
It is also expected to spark a legal challenge and has become a hot issue in the run-up to the mid-term congressional elections in November, when Democrats will defend their majorities in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.
The new Arizona state law seeks to "discourage and deter the unlawful entry and presence of aliens and economic activity" in the desert state, and Hispanic activists say it is already having a marked impact.

Oka then consider if the illegal immagrants were taking ur job bc of the lower pay that they would get. Would u still want the law or no? Wat if ur entire family lost thier jobs to the immagrants..which side would u pik nw?
Hmm... my mom once got her SSN used/stolen in finding of jobs by illegal immigrants.
*nods* I agree with LiiFe. But I'm kinda lame here and I believe in the power of *free* traveling and starting in a new world for a better future kind of ordeal.
For the sake of overall good, I think this law is needed in THAT area due to the over population, but I do not wish harm, rather yet, the best for them. They took the risk of coming here to start a better path for them and their future generations. I pray for them
So ur half half. Oka, dnt chu think it would be unconstitutional based upon Amendment XIV stating that "no state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States.." Wouldn't this law take away the citizens privileges?
About coming here for a better life, isn't that why everyone came here? Shouldn't they get the chance to start a new life here too?
Most people come to the states for a chance at a better life.... but the difference between them and us is we have a green card... having a green card, we can apply for a social security card which in turn means someone can legally hire us, which in turn means we'll pay our fair share in tax, etc.. of course, u'll also have to take population into consideration too.. - Sara
PPLS IM NT TRYING TO BE RUDE N IM NOT SIDING WITH EITHER SIDE. I'M JUS TRYING TO MAKE U SEE BOTH SIDES OF THE STORY N CHALLENGE UR UNDERSTANDING OF THE LAW. BTW..I WILL NT BE STATING MAH VIEW POINT ON THIS.
Actually, I don't think they are stealing jobs from my family or anyone. I mean those illegal immigrants are basically taking the jobs that no one want to do. How can they be taking other people's jobs if no one even care to go after those jobs. Come on, most people in the US would not work long hours and get no benefits for low wages. The bad side is that they are "cheap labor" and more people would want to hire them because human are greedy and we would rather pay someone a lower price for doing a job then pay them at a higher price for the same job. =] liiFe
Wat about all the unemployeed ppls? Shouldn't we jus make them do those un-wanted jobs so they could atleast make a living? They are the ones who are legal n they are the ones who deserves the jobs. Illegal immagrants working n making money is helping out our country bc they do complete those un-wanted jobs but isn't it also unfair labor on their behalf? Who gives us the right to make someone wrk n under pay them for it?
mai, u forget, u can't make people work.. if that's the case then u r right.. let's send all these illegal immigrants back and make all these unemployed personels wash dishes and do farm work... - Sara
p.s. Who gives us the right to make someone work and underpay them for it? Hmm.. how about those illegal immigrant.. They accept those terms because they know they got here illegally..
o__O You know you can't make someone do jobs that they don't want to do. Why would a teacher who got laid off want to work as a dishwasher in a restaurant? o.O It doesn't matter who deserve what jobs. Anyone can get a job as long as they go and search for it and is willing to do anything.
Umm Who gives them the rights to under pay people? The owner basically.
For example, would you pay $100 for a Gucci bag or $1000? We're humans, we want the same value for a cheaper price. =] liiFe
Lmao. Nice arguements liife.
lol work is work if you don't want the job and become unemployed you shouldn't complain when someone else is willing to take the job. IF you have a problem with the laws then vote for someone who has you're views. If you don't vote or just randomly vote don't complain when things don't work out your way. o btw why don't you want to share your view point?
nope i dnt wanna share mah point of view. dnt wanna be bias
My view? For those who illegally gotten here already, get them to apply for a social security card/green card so that way they can start legally work and pay taxes, etc.. Then set a new law, with an effective date, stating punishment for any new illegal immigrant... That way, this whole racial profiling is out of the way.. Illegal immigrants will come out and fess up and try to do the right thing.. If they don't, when they do get caught, send them back, fine them, w/e... - Sara
nice stance sara. thanks for ur imput!
The action against illegal immigration, law SB 1070 continues. Americans continue to voice their support for the bold position the Grand Canyon State has taken. CBS News and Rasmussen report the support of SB 1070 is 57 and 65 percent of Americans while The New York Daily News reports CNN giving a 55 percent rate of support. With SB 1070, state officials are more capable of finding illegal immigrants, although they can't send these immigrants out of the country. That power rests with the federal government, and Attorney General Eric Holder doesn't appear to be in the frame of mind to sign those papers.

I personally think racially profiling is wrong. I mean how can you tell who is a foreign born and who is an American born? You can't just base it on their clothes and how they speak and their properties. Once you start profiling people, you start dehumanizing them. =/ liiFe
Hi boys and girls of Hp. =] liiFe
