Who's online
Women's Studies.
The topic was sexuality and the stereotypes that came along with it.
The lecture started off with discussion of an article that we had to read the night before, and of course being the lazy person that I am, I didn't bother reading it. So I was half asleep while this discussion took place. From what I could pick up, she was talking about how the author, Tiffany, was generalizing Asian men as "girly men." And how wearing pink or not having any body hair would label one as a "girly man." I suppose she was over-exaggerating on some of the things that Tiffany wrote and got some snickering in response.
I was about to completely zone out and go into a short-term hibernation mode, when this girl sitting not too far away from me raised her hand and started debating with the teacher. She was pointing out the fact that not only is the professor making a satirical joke off of the article, but should bring the topic into a more serious and debatable manner. I mean, I've seen students attack teachers because of their viewpoints on a topic, but I've never seen a student attack a teacher on how he/she was teaching. It was like telling a teacher "I'm smarter than you" or going up to your workout trainer and calling her/him fat. O_O And this was no small classroom. It was in a lecture hall, with tons of eyes looking at them go at each other. As I watched the student furiously trying to get her point across, I thought to myself Wow. She is so bold. It's always interesting to watch the odds go against one. I don't ever want to be in that spotlight but wow. I was totally in awe. The heated debate of course came to an abrupt ending as other students chipped into the conversation to defend the professor's technique of trying to trigger responses to the article.
They continued on with talking about how in some European countries, such as Italy and France, girls aren't supposed to shave their underarms because it was seen a sign of prostitution. Then the conversation drifted to talking about how people display their appearance to catch the attention of others, how popular culture affects a guy to use drugs to enlarge his penis or how some girls are pressured to get breast implants. Within this topic, the professor asked if anyone have ever touched someone with breast implants, and to my surprise, some students raised their hands. One girl actually admitted that she has breast implants, so the professor questioned her if they were harder than normal breasts and she answered no. I never knew that there was a different feel between the two. O_O
Anyways, after a good 15 minutes of listening to the lecture, I zoned out and couldn't remember what else was said.

The other students wanted an A that is why they sided with the teacher. =]
If I was the teacher, that student, the odd one, would catch my eyes. =)
i know the differences between the two. and your topic of choice... anything that has "studies" after is usually stereotyped. Some exceptions.
yeah i've touched some before. on a stripper. an asian stripper. they're....firm. i guess that would be the appropriate word
Lols!
Wow, what an intense class you have.
This seems like a very interesting class! I'd definitely be alert.
