Hey What'sup:

If you're a beginner fisherman/woman or a amateur, even a pro, here are a few tips that will increase your odds of landing some fish during these hot scorcherous summer days. Obviously, the best bet to catch fish is early morning or evenings. Preferably, one hour before sunrise and one hour before sunsets. However, if you're like me, getting up early is a drag, and more often than not, end up fishing an hour before or sometime in the afternoon; when the suns is already high, and the fish are hidden away in covers. So here what to do:

Prior to any fishing, it's good to check the weather conditions and traffic condition and plan accordingly. You don't want your only chance of fishing to be ruin by a little delay.

Okay, when you're on the body of water say lake or pond: First, look for cool running water or any signs of a current, jetty (whirlpool type). If the body of water is a lake, look to see if a creek or stream runs into the lake. These areas provides fish with the most oxygenate water (high heat and lack or current = oxygen depletion). Also, if possible, find a channel (where the current flows strongest). This may be tougher to spot, if your lake has no character, meaning it has no form (A lot of Hmong folks fish the man-made watershed, which looks like a shape of a square or rectangle... hence no form). If not, look for bends, hills, even very large boulders can provide a little current with a little wind. However, by buying a topographic map of the lake/river, will provide this information.

Second, look for covers. Trees, brushes, rock piles, shrubs, man-made trash like tires and shopping carts, etc. Will provide bass cover/protection from predators and the sun.

Third, if you see piles of weeds or lilipads, this provides cover, and it's very likely there are fishes holding there.

Last, look for boat docks/piers. More often than not, there's almost always fish holding here.

Well, there you have it. I hope these tips will provide the help you need to catch SOME fish, let alone the "big"one. Oh one very last tip, you must know the regulation of your state. Each state varies on each species of fish. So please, do a little research or ask that dude at Wal-Mart about how many you can keep and the minimum size. Good luck.

Thank you for reading this. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Seeya out on the water.

LOl. HIYAH!
Well a few weeks ago, I ended up going to Hume lake in cali. I hadnt read your blog before then, but I did end up fishing at the place where the river met the lake, and youre right! There were lots of fish at that point. Smile
LOl, thats why i applaud your tips up there. I noticed that where the river met the lake, it was much deeper and that the currrent was stronger as well. I saw some fish swimming up to the surface once in a while too, so decided to fish there.. and low and behold!! Caught plenty of trout and also a big ass sucker fish o.O....
Anyways. That was definitely worth the drive up there.

I want to get around to fishing up north soon before the summer ends. Ill post up some pics if I go fishing Smile

What about you? Any good fishing lately?

Wowness! Yeap, mountain lakes like is filled with planted and wild trouts. Personally, I haven't fished Hume Lake yet. I figured, if it's trout I'm going for, the lakes nearby can deliver just as good. That lake is a great place to camp; lots of great sites. Hume is great for trout and small mouth bass! Did you camp too or just fished? Anyways, congrats on your catches. You applied bass techniques to trout and was richly rewarded. It's the cool running water that trouts loves most. I just love throwing a kastmaster in running water and getting a strong tug at the end; it's a feeling just out of this world. I'm sure you'll agree with me here.

I haven't gone fishing for several weeks now, as I'm finishing up my degree and buying/moving (house) at the same time. It is hectic nkaujhmoob! Anyways, when done, I'll be heading off to San Luis Reservoir. Right now, striper action is "out of this world"... gotta fish before the special season is done with.

well, i look forward to those photos. Until then, seeya out on the waters.

Hi Eryk,
I was out there on a camping trip, but wanted to try out my luck as well. Smile
It was a good fishing place. What are the nearby places for you since Hume doesnt seem to be a place of your preference?
And yes, the tug is always the excitement but when theres not tug, its a bummer. Gah... no wonder some people dont like it sometimes..lol

WOW, youre finishing your degree? Omgosh, congrats! And buying a home? o.O Damn. Working hard much? Smile
Anyways, good luck with the stripers there then. I havent been there. Been wanting to go up north for crabbing.. but Im not sure if thats gonna be possible.

Hey have you gone deep sea fishing at all?

Well thank you.

Nearby, I fish the king's river or pine flat lake, bass lake, hensley lake, lost lake, private ponds, san luis reservoir. I prefer Pine Flat, it has trophy size large mouth and it's more consistent than some of the other lakes mentioned.

Some friends of mine went crabbing up in Crecent City and netted in coolers after coolers of red rock and dungenous crabs. You should go while the season is hot.

I haven't done deep sea, but I have done crabbing off the coast, that wasn't fun... well, the nearly traggic, boat getting dragged out to sea, dead part........ wasn't fun. but the crabbing was fun.

No one seems to wanna go with me. Guess i'll wait.
