Computer, Tips&Tricks ~
Here are a list tips you can do to make your computer be(Seemingly) faster!
*Administrator Privileges*
1) Modify your Virtual Memory! (PC & Internet Speed Boost)
2) Modify your host file! (Expert only / Internet Speed Boost)
3) Disable unused system startups! (PC Speed Boost)
4) Do NOT use anti-virus that are on constant monitering! (Experts only / PC & Internet Speed Boost)
5) Full System Scan, THEN Defrag main hard drive ONCE per month. (PC Performance Increase) **NOTE: You will notice a MUCH longer time to copy, save files due to the fact that the hard drive is wearing out with each additional defrag/file erased/or OS Re-Install/Reformat**
6) Before turning off your PC, open the command prompt, and type in:
C:\>netsh winsock reset
PRESS ENTER Then type:
C:\>ipconfig /flushdns
PRESS ENTER Then exit. You can then shutdown the PC and on the next restart, all connections to any website will not be slow!
*Any Privilege*
1) Use Internet Explorer! Only works IF you are using Windows (Internet Speed Boost)
2) Disable browser toolbars! (PC & Internet Speed Boost)
3) Disable Unused startups! (PC Speed Boost)
4) Use background images with as LITTLE file size as possible! (Startup Speed Boost)
5) Use only 1 instance of a program! (PC Speed Boost)
6) Do not log in more than TWICE on a machine! (PC Speed Boost)
I have left a few things out, but if there is anything in specific that google cannot help you with, I may be able to provide additional explanation on what to do. =)
Wow. That's alot of tips to follow.
I shall look them over once more when I do get a laptop. =]
LMFAO!!! this doesnt even work, im running XP, and it just direct me to my harddrive disk. LOL
here are some tips and tricks of mine to make your internet run faster.
If your running XP, go to RUN: type in
gpedit.msc
+ Administrator Templates
+ Network
+ QoS Packet Schedule
On the right side panel, look for "limit reservable bandwidth" and DOUBLE CLICK IT!
Defauth is Not Configure
Enable it and set the number from 20 to 0
Click Apply, OK then Exit.
Restart Computer, and Now your internet should be BLAZING FAST!

This doesn't really do anything. By default it is OFF meaning it's already at 0. Waste of time.
hm...i just found something out. seems to be working well. =)
open notepad and put this in:
mystring=80000000
then save the file on your desktop as:
ram.vbe
once you're done, close notepad and open the file on your desktop.
Thanks Kabao for sharing that. Very interesting, even I haven't heard of it.
KB, that looks like something risky to try... although I haven't noticed anything different when I did that. What OS does it work in? Using Vista.
Chewy, I think it's on of those things that do nothing, but since the user clicks on it, they think it's faster. It's just a trick?
Chewy, it's suppose to increase your RAM space? Hm...idk...I think it's a joke now. :/ I'm having issues opening up Zune AND something popped up saying something amout my memory...something something...so i deleted it. xD And it says it works with Vista yes...maybe that's why I'm having issues...?
Kabao, I kind of researched on it. Basically from what I read, it's for Vista, but works on any other Windows OS. All that file does is your RAM space is used up as you use applications throughout the day. When you run the file on your desktop, it just clears your used RAM or sets RAM free space to a certain value deleting what ever is in it's way.
But if you are using computer hardcore like me and Chewy, your RAM space will probably fill up in a matter of secs again resulting you into using the file more than once in a matter of mins.
I have no idea how to do the things you just said. How sad!
Whooooo, too complicated for me.
I'll just have Chewable or Peter do it for me.
Lmfao! Best of luck.
It's the same as doing
System Properties -> Advance -> Performance -> Advanced -> Virtual Memory -> Change the custom size HALF your total RAM for both Initial size and Maximum size(If you have less than 512MB. If you have more than 512MB RAM just click No paging file.).
This forces Windows to use only RAMs and not virtual memory(Much like linux/unix, thus linux/unix is superior for multitasking/multi-background programs)
Preferences:
* Windows XP HOME/PRO Combined RAM+Virtual memory = 512MB (Ex. If you have 256 RAM, set Initial Size and Maximum size to 256. If you have 512MB or more RAM, set No paging file.)
* Windows Vista ANY Combined RAM+Virtual memory = 1.5GB (Ex. if you have 1GB RAM, set initial and maximum size to 512MB. If you have 1.5GB or more RAM, set No paging file.)
This does improve performance, but also your electricity bill. =P
Say what?! So that little thingie majiggy I found out increased my electricity bill? -.-"
Yes. In other words, let's put this in a simple matter.
A RAM card consumes electricity depending on how much memory it is storing/removing constantly. The more Mb/s or Kb/s that it is constantly swapping for program memory will cause it to consume more power.
But, let's say you have virtual memory instead for those inactive/background programs and services. They stay in a virtual memory, which has an idle state(or sleep mode) and that consumes nearly no power.
When you access an inactive window after a long period of time, it will then slowly move memory into RAM during use. This is why when you're running Windows XP Professional/SP3, or versions before Vista, inactive windows have a slight lag before they completely open, or show up on the screen. Vista/Windows7 just has a different way of moving memory between active and inactive programs.
You also use more electricity for any other devices connected to your motherboard, like a second hard drive or second CD Drive, Graphics cards, extra Ethernet cards, etc. More devices means more electricity, regardless of what power supply/processor you have.
oh
There's also another option for you to execute along with these things. Go watch it in youtube. There are tons of tips in there!
chewy's way is too complicated to understand.
