Hmong Alphabet
I've done some researches some time ago but I still have a clear memory based on what was said about the Hmong Alphabet.
It was said that the Chinese burnt all the books and assassinated any knowledgeable Hmong. And the last book was swallowed by a Hmong guy.
There's another saying that some of the Chinese alphabet came from the Hmong. [There was a book of evidence but the Chinese denied it and they're still debating].
According to a site that I came across, the Hmong writing systems came straight from the 'pab duas' (I swear my Hmong writing is killing me). The unique designs from the needle works tell a story. But now since none of us can read them anymore, the clothings are just like fashion today.
Anyways I looked up the Hmong Writing System on youtube and I'm still confused
Thanks for the info
OMG that's exactly what my bf say too.
He's so into these Hmong Chinese sutff, he'll read it for hours.
Everytime he finished, he'll tell me about it.
LOL, that's how I got most of my information.
Damn! Your bf need to give me more infos! Because I'm also into those stuff!
lol. idk why but i'm really into these stuff too.
Wow. Interesting to know about the origins of the Hmong alphabet. I never knew about the Hmong guy/rooster swallowing the last Hmong book.
Haha you should learn more from me MAUAHAHHA jk
I made this Study Chart (in link) like a year ago, when I was still in School in a Hmong Class:

See if it helps.
Thanks for the chart, but that's not the real Hmong alphabet.
That's the newly made adjusted Hmong. I think they call it the "Hmoob La-teng" alphabet. There's another Hmong alphabet going around that claims to be older than that one, dating back tot he Chinese era. Where even Chinese letters resemble the Hmong alphabet.
LeeV18: It's nice that you want to make sure that we all have access to your chart and use it as a resource. I thank you for your efforts, but it doesn't require you to spam the link on several links.
By simply creating a thread and displaying your chart would increase the chances of others viewing it.
old news to me.
I don't even know my Hmong Alphabet.
i use to study it..its way easier then the one we're using now..trust me..i have no choice but to learn it bc my dad was one of the teacher..but yeah i try learning the one we use today..but its freaking hard!
The hmong alphabet is quite simple once you learn the basics. Like said from some above, that's what i read too.
I'll add a little to what everyone said. Because the chinese forbid any of the hmong to learn or read, Hmong was able to put the alphabet as a design into paj ntaub. But since no one can learn it and pass it down to the next generation, the meaning of the designs were forgotten.
The hmong alpahabets are werid symbols. I have this one small chart of it laying around but you don't techinically know what they mean or sound, only a fewwwww people out there knows it. sadly.. these people don't live here in the US. Somewhere in those smaller village of china. FYI: the chart I have only have some COMMON symbol. there are many that has not yet been discover.. or found.

Yeah, from the stories that I heard Hmong had a writing system back then. We had our own Alphabet, but was destroyed in the Hmong-Chinese wars. I heard a similar story, but it was that the Hmong man fed it to the rooster. So now when the rooster crows, it says for the sun to get up.
And I have read some article that suggest that the Chinese Alphabet came from the Hmong Alphabet.
These days, they're starting to teach the "believed" Hmong Alphabet again. There's currently about 3 Hmong Alphabet going around, the French adapted Hmong Alphabet and these two other Hmong Alphabet.
