Why is it that so many news outlet showcase only the negative aspects of Hmong society? I understand that they want viewers and negative aspects tend to get those viewers but I barely see any positive news about the Hmong in the community. Are we really such a bad community?

What do you think we should do to create better stereotypes about the Hmong?

Stereotypes can only be changed when the mass changes.
I wouldn't say it's utterly impossible, but the chances are slim.
I'm sure if there was just ONE tactic to better the community, others would have succeeded already.
So answering your question, I would say I have no clue. Big smile

We cant change what it is, hmong people are all rebels and we ain't wanted anywhere..its just GVP gave us the opportnity to come to the states..but yeah i've worked with some old people in the so call hmong Goverment, and its pretty much corrupted, money and greed, power and thier own needs, Its time for us Young Bucks to try to make a change and impact the community..but yeah, this journey is takeing too long, and the old people in the community thinks we younger groups don't know anything, but how could we not know anything, when we was born here in the state..I argue! but then you cant win a fight when it comes to 50 other older hmong guys and you're only 22 and alone..

"What do you think we should do to create better stereotypes about the Hmong?"

I think it's quite funny how you asked that particular question. Why do you feel the need for the media to showcase the goodness in us? More importantly, why are we always waiting for others to tell our stories, to define us, to legitimate us?

Why bother "creating" stereotypes? You have a voice. The Hmong people have voice. If you want to advocate the goodness in us, you don't have to create any stereotypes, all you have to do is speak out.

When you see negative images of Black people in the media, they just don't sit around and complain about it. They make a stand and they defend.
